This programme brings together works by Yoshimatsu, Joseph Phibbs, Witold Lutosławski, Francis Poulenc and Graham Fitkin, shaped by the influence of Niccolò Paganini. Spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, it centres on variation form and re-imagined virtuosity within the medium of pianos and solo saxophone. Paganini’s legacy serves as a structural and aesthetic point of reference, linking works that approach transformation, texture, and ensemble from distinct compositional perspectives.
